Ten years ago, Speedy Ortiz burst onto the scene with their debut album "Major Arcana," marking a milestone in their journey. The album's release propelled them into the spotlight, earning critical acclaim and coveted slots at renowned festivals like Pitchfork, Primavera, and Bonnaroo. Their rise continued with tours alongside musical giants The Breeders and Stephen Malkmus. A notable invitation came from NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series, an opportunity they humbly deferred at the time.
Now, after a decade of growth and evolution, Speedy Ortiz has finally seized the moment. The long-awaited NPR Tiny Desk performance has been unveiled, showcasing their musical journey. Bandleader Sadie Dupuis reflects on their earlier decision to decline, explaining that the demands of a grueling tour left them unable to rework their sound for the intimate Tiny Desk setting.
A decade on, the band's perseverance has borne fruit. The NPR Tiny Desk concert features a career-spanning setlist, drawing from all four of their albums. Notably, the performance includes special appearances by former Speedy Ortiz members Devin McKnight and Darl Ferm, along with violinist Camellia Hartman, adding a multi-instrumental layer to the event.
