La Doña Shares New Single: "Show Me How You’re Livin'" Featuring Tia Nomore
La Doña, the musical alter ego of Cecilia Cassandra Peña-Govea, has unveiled her latest single and music video titled "Show Me How You Livin'," featuring Tia Nomore. This track is part of her upcoming EP, "Can't Eat Clout," set to release on September 15th via Text Me Records. La Doña's unique style blends flamenco, Cuban tarareo, salsa, and second-line brass composition over a hyphy beat, providing a sneak peek into her upcoming project.
The single "Show Me How You Livin'" opens with traditional flamenco palmas and transitions into a salsa melody, reflecting a resilient spirit during California's devastating wildfires. Co-produced with childhood friends Adeyemi and Ruben Sandoval, the song serves as an upbeat social commentary on seeking hope within communities. The vibrant music video, directed by Theo Schear, showcases La Doña and Tia Nomore dancing on Bay Area public transportation, paying homage to their roots.
Accompanying the EP is the Can't Eat Clout North American tour, featuring stops in New York, Mexico City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and more. La Doña's project involves collaborations with childhood peers and friends, highlighting themes of creative freedom, anticapitalism, and community strength.
La Doña's rise in the music scene includes being chosen as a YouTube Foundry Artist, receiving the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Mini-Commission in 2020, and performing at notable events like Tecate's "El Patio" and Redbull's "EEUU de Bass." Her previous EP, "Algo Nuevo," garnered critical acclaim and her track "Quién Me La Paga" was recognized by The New York Times Magazine. The artist's 2022 single "Penas Con Pan" was featured in Barack Obama's 2023 playlist. La Doña's performance at Live Out Fest in Mexico is also highly anticipated.
